New year funding bonanza

Recent stories

Locals will be able to make a day out at Narrandera water tower under plans to build a picnic shelter, barbecue area, playground and toilet, thanks to $660,000 from Round Five of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said the new playground would be an extra reason to visit and spend time near the iconic artwork on the Narrandera water tank.

“Not only will this funding build an adventure playground for local families and visitors to use, but it will also include an accessible, unisex toilet so all community members can come and enjoy the new area,” Mr Toole said.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said it was great to see the government continuing to support regional communities such as Narrandera and Barellan with record funding.

“These projects will be of great benefit to the community. The Narrandera Water Tower Precinct project will build on previous funding to paint the water tower, with these additional funds delivering a fantastic tourist attraction. The renewal of the CBD security system will ensure Narrandera continues to be a safe space for residents and visitors alike.”

“The Narrandera tennis courts will be upgraded for greater accessibility and the clubhouse renovated, encouraging more players to take up this wonderful social sport.”

“The much loved Clydesdale will be captured in bronze for people near and far to admire for generations to come, recognising the importance and contribution of this workhorse to life in rural Australia,” she said.

Through 5 rounds of the Stronger Countries Community Fund, Narrandera Shire has received $5,199,997.

Narrandera Shire Council General Manager George Cowan said the council was appreciative of these funds, enabling them to address two long-standing issues for the Narrandera community.

“This will enable us to deliver on requests made by residents of Narrandera at many community forums and allow for the town to have a fully integrated security camera system,” Mr Cowan said.
