The Aurora Foundation announced that Trinity College alum Ethan Taylor is one of two Charlie Perkins scholarship recipients for 2022.

The announcement was made at a ceremony at the British High Commission last week, attended by Aurora’s CEO Leila Smith and the British High Commissioner to Australia Vicki Treadell.

The Charlie Perkins scholarship, in addition to the 2022 AGL Shaw Scholarship (awarded to Ethan by Trinity College), will enable Ethan to travel to one of the world’s most elite universities – the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom – to study a Master of Philosophy in Politics (Political Theory).

Ethan is from the Warumungu nation that surrounds Tennant Creek, and within his nation he belongs to the Patta clan, and his skin is Jappaljarri.

Ethan completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Philosophy at the University of Melbourne, focusing on political philosophy, as well as the intersection of ethics and public policy.

Ethan says that this opportunity is his first step towards injecting the lived experiences of Aboriginal people into professional political philosophy.

Each year, the Charlie Perkins scholarship provides an opportunity for two talented Indigenous Australians to undertake postgraduate study at the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge.

These postgraduate scholarships are directed towards Indigenous Australians who have the potential to become leaders in their field of study and in their communities.

The AGL Shaw Scholarship recipient must be an alum of Trinity College, a University of Melbourne graduate and be accepted into Oxford University.

The Aurora Foundation said that Ethan received this scholarship because of his significant academic accomplishments, and dedication to the future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia.
