Murray–Darling Basin Authority, Media Release, 14 July 2026

The Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) held an online meeting on 10 July with all members present.

Members approved updates to the Sustainable Diversion Limit Adjustment Mechanism final Register of Measures, as notified by the Basin Officials Committee, to be published on the MDBA website. Members also considered assurance material for those measures that will be in operation by 31 December 2026.

The Authority accepted notification from Basin Governments that the 14 withdrawn measures should not be included in the reconciliation.

The Authority approved 24 notified supply measures for inclusion in the reconciliation.

The Authority determined that the Koondrook–Perricoota measure should not be included in the reconciliation because it will not be in operation by 31 December 2026. The Authority considered that significant further work over a longer timeline will be required before this measure could deliver the notified outcomes.

Members approved changes to the Sustainable Diversion Limit Adjustment Mechanism default method which is used to calculate contributions from supply measures. The changes were made after consulting with the Basin Officials Committee and were necessary to enable accurate representation of the Restoring Murray Waterways SDLAM supply measure notified in 2025.

The independent panel advising on Murray-Goulburn constraints briefed the Authority ahead of the release of their Findings Report to the Murray–Darling Basin Ministerial Council. The MDBA established the Independent Panel in December 2025, a key recommendation of the Constraints Relaxation Implementation Roadmap.

Members discussed and provided guidance on the structure of the Basin Plan Review report in preparation for delivery of the Review to the Commonwealth government in December 2026.
