Heritage Festival Talk – Fiddle-maker Martin Scuffins

Local fiddlemaker Martin Scuffins is a creative artist who loves the natural world and finds joy in the expression of life through music and art. He has a passion for fiddle making and a special interest in Norwegian Hardanger fiddles which are fitted with ‘sympathetic’ strings that resonate in harmony with the played strings. Join him as he discusses and demonstrates his making process, playing some traditional Hardanger fiddle pieces.

Martin Scuffins is a maker and player of the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, an instrument with its origins in the Baroque period. He is joined by his wife, classically trained string player Talia Barrett who will add spine-tingling harmonies on bass and viola to ancient fiddle melodies. Together they will take you on a world tour of traditional fiddle styles including Irish, Scottish, Norwegian and American.
