Maldon’s annual Town-Wide Garage Sale made for a busy Saturday in and across town.

With just shy of 70 households opening their gates and putting their unwanted treasures out for sale, the cash was flowing, and visitors and locals alike enjoyed wandering amongst the diverse collection of stuff on show.

After Bonnie (who has organised the garage sale tirelessly since its beginnings) handed the reins over to Maldon Neighbourhood Centre, there was a lot to get familiar with. Bonnie’s are big shoes to fill!

This time around, the map was online, with free printed maps available at the newsagent. In collaboration with Maldon Inc., the sale was promoted across social media and various local and regional tourism networks.

Based on observation, it was a lovely day for the buyers, with perfect weather for wandering. One out of town visitor, who called the Neighbourhood Centre to provide feedback, said:

“Everyone was really, really, friendly, and the small size of the town meant that it was really manageable to get around all the sales”.

There were also some useful lessons learned.

Feedback has been readily provided by sellers about the online map and how to make it more user-friendly, as well as about omissions made. The Neighbourhood Centre will take on the ideas given and change elements of the map. They would also like to hear more from people who participated – as buyers, as sellers and as local businesses trading on the day. The Neighbourhood Centre is welcoming all comments and suggestions via a brief online survey, accessible on the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre website (www.maldonnc.org.au) or direct through the link below:
