This year’s Maldon Classic was a great success for the town. The two-day event, prior to the long weekend, ran as a fundraiser for the Maldon Hospital. Visitors travelled from all parts of Victoria and interstate.

Saturday saw the bike show held at the Community Centre. There were over 100 classic bicycles displayed, filling both halls. The exhibits ranged from some very early examples in the Farren collection through to the glorious racing bikes of the 70s and 80s. The two major prizes for the event were both won by Mario Gooch from Bentleigh.

A classic steel bike was auctioned for the benefit of the hospital, and the winning bidder was our local Brett Cole. He was also recognised in the awards for his stunning early 70s track bike.

On Sunday, the Classic ride through the countryside around Eddington and Baringhup was led out of town by the volunteers at the CFA. Just short of 100 riders left town, which was quite a sight. Whilst there were blustery conditions, most of the riders enjoyed the aid station and the break at Hamilton’s Crossing before climbing back uphill to Maldon.

Organisers were incredibly happy that the event supported the accommodation providers and traders in the town. We have made the effort to place a Public Notice thanking our many sponsors.
