The transformation of the 83-year-old art deco water tower in South Casino has been a long time coming.

Richmond Valley Council put forward several mural designs for the community to decide which one was best for the tower.

The Queensland-based group, The Brightsiders, were supposed to start painting  their four-panel mural a year ago.

Covid restrictions halted that start.

Cleaning has now begun with local company Cleaning New Ways scrubbing the tower’s concrete surface ready for the makeover.

The mural is funded by a $125,000 grant from the Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery grants program.

The funding will pay for the design and delivery of the mural, and signage to for the scenic riverbank walk along Richmond River.

Here’s some other murals done by The Brightsiders.
