Bentley came to the Richmond Valley Council office in Casino today, February 1.

Holding their placards, the Bentley Our Sustainable Future group came on the final day of submissions for the development application of Bentley Quarry.

Charles Wilkinson handed a submission, representing 40 members of the group, across the council counter.

“The quarry is operating unlawfully,” Mr Wilkinson said.

Bentley Our Sustainable Future are taking the Bentley quarry owner to court for operating the quarry where there are no continuing rights to do so.

“We’ve employed expert consultation,” Mr Wilkinson said.

“This DA is not fit for purpose.”

Bentley resident Rosemary Joseph said the group was trying to “save Bentley from industrialisation.”

“We don’t want development that will swamp the valley, we want things in harmony with the valley,” she said.

The group eagerly await the council’s decision on the quarry DA.
