Tynan. Remember that name. It’s a name you are going to see a lot of in the future.

Tynan Dove is a 16-year-old from Cohuna who is set to make a name for himself in the world of rapping. He appears to be an ordinary teenager, studying Year 10 at Cohuna Secondary College and doing what other district teenagers do. Tynan is, however, an aspiring artist who is building a reputation as a renowned melodic rap artist.

For some time, Tynan has had a passion for writing lyrics, but it wasn’t until COVID-19 struck last year and he had more time to devote to his passion during lockdown that he decided to take his lyric writing to the next level.

Tynan writes lyrics from the heart and about whatever is on his mind and records the vocals.

“It’s whatever I think, and then I try to put it into words to make sense in the song. It has to fit into the rhythm, so you have to chop a few words out.

“You can just get what you’re thinking off your mind or how you’re feeling without having to say anything to anybody. You can just put it into a song. It’s just there and done. I like how people can listen to it and relate to it as well on an emotional level.

“I have a studio set up where I can record it, and then I have software on my computer where I have to mix the vocals and put a reverb on it, or an equaliser to make it sound crisper. I have the beat first and record the vocals over it.”

Collaborating with other artists around the world who provide the beat and music, Tynan puts together the finished product and a music distributor releases his songs on various platforms, such as Spotify.

Earlier this year Tynan submitted his work for selection to Triple J and Triple J Unearthed. It was selected for airplay and continues to be played on Triple J Unearthed.

Tynan hopes to one day have his music played widely and internationally.

“I want people across the globe to hear what I’m saying and relate to it. I’d like to get to a level where I can impact not only a few hundred people, but a few million.”

Locally, Tynan is preparing for the Summerwave Music Festival in Kerang on November 20. It will be his first public performance.

For aspiring artists, Tynan has some words of advice. “Take that first step and see where it leads you. Obviously, it’s not for everyone, but if you feel like you can do it, then at least try.”

To follow Tynan’s journey, look him up on Instagram, TikTok or Spotify.
