Progress continues to be made on the Morrison Government’s purpose-built quarantine facility at Pinkenba, with global construction company Multiplex today selected to deliver the project.

The site at Pinkenba is approximately 7km to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and 3km from Brisbane International Airport.

Finance Minister Simon Birmingham said the Centre at Pinkenba would support ongoing efforts to fight COVID-19 and will give Queensland extra capacity to manage potential future health crises or natural disasters.

“We’re getting on with the job of delivering this quarantine facility for Queenslanders,” Minister Birmingham said.

“Whilst it will be used for any ongoing quarantine requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic, it will also be there in the years to come to support responses to natural disasters or other crises.

“Unlike state proposals, the Pinkenba site is appropriately close to Brisbane International Airport and all necessary medical facilities, including three major hospitals.”

“Multiplex is making strong progress in its work to deliver a similar purpose-built quarantine facility in Victoria, and I am pleased that we will be able to draw on their experience and expertise to deliver this centre in Queensland.”

Multiplex is an established global construction company that has delivered over 1,000 projects across the world and has an outstanding track record of successfully delivering complex projects in Australia.

Multiplex will engage several modular construction companies to provide modular buildings for the facility, and this work is being conducted in parallel. Construction on site, will begin shortly, as we continue to work towards the first 500 beds being complete in the first quarter of next year.
