Canteen Creek School conducted a community kayak come and try day over the May Day long weekend.
Local community members, children and staff travelled 50km Canteen Creek to Policeman’s Waterhole in Iytwelepenty National Park/Davenport Ranges for a fun-filled day on the water.
Mums and dads ventured onto the water and paddled up and down the beautiful waterhole while their children followed closely behind, squealing with delight when they splashed them as they paddled past.
A lovey BBQ lunch cooked over a fire by principal Scott Whitelaw was a hit with all involved. One community member said: “These kinds of events build great relationships with the school and community.”
Mr Scott Whitelaw said events held on country helped to strengthen relationships between the school and community.
“I’d particularly like to thank the 34 community members who travelled out for the day and also Dillon, our Barkly Region Sports Education Coordinator for conducting such an enjoyable canoeing event,” he said.
