Jaydyn’s Singapore success

Cup stacking competitor Jaydyn Coggins has continued his 2023 winning form while at the World Championships in Singapore. Jaydyn, who set a new world record earlier this year during auditions for Australia’s Got Talent under the supervision of a Guinness World Record official, has now taken out a divisional clean sweep and finished second overall in the world.

Over the weekend Kaniva and Nhill saw an influx of traffic due to the AFL Gather Round which was held in Adelaide from Thursday to Sunday ... Kaniva’s Little Guys Pizza owner Nakita Jewell said, "We were really busy and had a few repeat customers on the way back, which is a good sign." Nhill’s Wimmera Bakery Manager Teresa Ross said, "Both last Friday and Monday have been so busy, which is awesome. We have sold out of everything on both days. It’s great for the little business that has struggled to stay open over covid."

National team for world club showjumping championships

A two-star eventing class has been run for the first time in Tasmania since 2015. It came about as a result of a successful campaign by some promising young event riders on the Victorian circuit in May/June last year, when several riders qualified at two-star level.

At least 20 organisations qualify for the title and make up those eligible to compete across 45 sporting disciplines at Police and Emergency Services Games held annually across Australia.

Rain and cold didn’t deter fans from the pull of Quamby

Despite the rain and arctic conditions, Tractor Pull enthusiasts headed to the birthplace of Tractor Pulling in Australia, Quambatook, for the Annual Easter Tractor Pull. With two lanes available at Quambatook, a mini sled was held on one side for smaller vehicles, while the other hosted the executioner sled for the larger vehicles.

Brilliant Barkly boys shine in U12 footy championships

Pam Dillon. A team of 15 boys from four different schools across the Barkly ventured up to Darwin to compete in the 12 Years and Under School of Sport Education NT Australian Football Championships. Team officials Tyler Horwood and Lachlan Dunemann coached and managed the boys through the three-day championships.

Inlet fishery opportunity

Wilson Inlet could become a thriving commercial fishery for rock oysters and mussels given the correct salinity levels, says aquaculturalist Zak Launay. The sustainable product feeds on phytoplankton and has the capacity to contribute greatly to the local economy, creating jobs and local fresh seafood.

National Champs

The annual Club championship provided an action-packed day with 25 records broken and 5 new records created. Bailey Harm had an exceptional day breaking the record in all 10 events in which he competed ... It was an action-packed day in the pool enjoyed immensely by both swimmers and spectators.

Special pony gets family through the toughest of times

Lachie Allen is just four and his big sister Milla is six. When Mila led Lachie to a win on the little white pony Pixie at the recent Equestrian Festival at Warragul, there was hardly a dry eye in the house ... “On the day Milla kept saying how proud of Lachie she was and kept reminding him to sit straight like a soldier, point his toes to the stars and look up."

I haven't enjoyed a book more for ages. I am deep into Wild Ride, The story of the Australian Stock Saddle by Fiona Carruthers and have no hesitation in recommending that horse lovers or anyone interested in Australian history should go out and buy a copy today. Calling it magnificent doesn’t even come close.

Brothers win Dash for Cash

Congratulations to brothers Grant and Luke Robins who competed on Friday evening in the ‘Dash for Cash’ and won their class (30HP Standards) in the Riverland Dinghy Club Inc. Pony Club eventers from all over Tasmania headed to the Tasmanian Equestrian Centre at Lauderdale recently for the Pony Club Tasmania State Trials. The event was hosted by the Southern Zone of Pony Club Tasmania with 94 riders competing on 110 horses.

Family fishing day makes a comeback

The Tennant Creek Fishing Club’s annual Family Fun Fishing Day made a comeback at Lake Mary Ann last weekend. The weather co-operated wonderfully, with little wind, warm and sunny as around ninety people came out to the lake to discover the joys of fishing.
