Water-load of love for the Clarence River
It’s a long way from the Clarence River in Grafton to the Thames in London, but stroke by stroke, a dedicated young crew of talented rowers from Brisbane Boys College (BBC), are continuing to make waves as they determinedly pursue their dreams of representing Australia on the international stage by competing in the prestigious 2023 Henley Royal Regatta.
Shared paths fully complete
Fin Hansen. A shared path for cycling, walking and running on the Copper Coast has been fully connected. The final stages of Copper Coast Council’s $1.6 million project were completed when the final section from Cornish Terrace to Magazine Road, Wallaroo, was sealed recently. The region’s trail network spans about 25 kilometres and links the Kadina to Wallaroo Copper Rail Trail with the Wallaroo to Moonta Shared Path, which finishes/starts at the Moonta Tourist Office on Blanche Terrace.
Short’s superb start

Rose steers Virgil to Adelaide win for first time
It's easy to talk about the great success of the Adelaide Equestrian Festival and the record crowds of 37,000 at the finale of an amazing event ... Shane Rose has stood on top of the CCI5*podium three times at Adelaide, the first in 2004 then in 2015, but this time with Virgil it was so obviously special, with Shane having a very obvious love for a very brave and talented horse.

The Eagers Shield Polo Tournament got underway last weekend at the Clifton Recreation grounds. Local and visiting players took to the field in what was the first tournament of the Downs Polo Club 2023 calendar.
Bike duo nails quinella
Local riders Riley Bloom and his best mate Layne Klippel scooped the pool at the Holbrook Motorcycle Sports Club ‘Leaping Logs’ competition on the weekend. Riley took out 1st place in the Junior Senior class, very closely followed by Layne in a memorable finish for the pair.
Masters to make history
Fin Hanson. SA Masters Games is set to return to the Copper Coast in 2024. It will be the third time the Copper Coast has hosted the event in four years and the first time in SA Masters Games history a region has hosted in back-to-back years.
2023 SA Wooden Boat Festival on this weekend
The countdown is on for the 2023 South Australian Wooden Boat Festival (SAWBF), which is set to take place this weekend (29-30 April). With big numbers in stud classes at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show, spectators had plenty to look at and could admire some of Australia’s finest livestock ... Champion stock horse hack Brandwood Orlando ridden by Cole Moxey with reserve champion Tahnee Sullivan’s Wundurra Impact and judge Sam Davidge ... Para dressage riders have their heads well and truly turned towards Paris next year. At the Dressage Spectacular at Boneo Park last weekend, both Dianne Barnes and Maddison Cooke gained the first of their necessary “minimum eligibility requirement” (MER) for a place on the team.
New course, sponsors make for a great swim
Ocean Beach offered near-perfect conditions for this year’s Southern Ocean Classic Mile with 125 swimmers taking to the water on Easter Sunday. Line honours went to Perth swimmer Max Coten who completed the course in just over 19 minutes.

After completing his apprenticeship in the junior ranks by winning two titles in 2028 an 2019, Tooma-based horseman Travis Bandy has taken out the senior Stockman’s Challenge at this year’s Man From Snowy River Bush Festival. Travis is following in his father Scott’s footsteps, a five-time victor of the prestigious event.
Jaydyn’s Singapore success
Cup stacking competitor Jaydyn Coggins has continued his 2023 winning form while at the World Championships in Singapore. Jaydyn, who set a new world record earlier this year during auditions for Australia’s Got Talent under the supervision of a Guinness World Record official, has now taken out a divisional clean sweep and finished second overall in the world.

Nhill’s Wimmera Bakery Manager Teresa Ross said, "Both last Friday and Monday have been so busy, which is awesome. We have sold out of everything on both days. Tasmanian eventing club gets full stars for effort
A two-star eventing class has been run for the first time in Tasmania since 2015. It came about as a result of a successful campaign by some promising young event riders on the Victorian circuit in May/June last year, when several riders qualified at two-star level.
