Ken Grundy, Naracoorte. To suggest we have not sufficient money for the economy is like saying we cannot measure a piece of timber because we haven’t sufficient feet or inches. The economists, financial advisers and Treasurers all offer advice. Usually, the recommendations from one will be criticised by others.
Drought support needed
The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is calling on the Victorian government to urgently ramp up drought support measures as farmers across the state face worsening conditions and the real threat of business failure … the VFF says the government must seize the opportunity to deliver immediate relief to drought-affected regions and invest in long-term preparedness and resilience.
More power pain for SA: Patterson
The Hon. Stephen Patterson, Shadow Minister for Energy and Net Zero (SA). The cost of keeping the lights on continues to rise under the Malinauskas Labor Government, with two reports released today confirming significant increases in the cost of wholesale electricity. Reports from the AER and the AEMO show wholesale electricity prices in South Australia in the first quarter of this year have reached $98 per MWh, a 17 per cent increase from Q1 2024.
Expanded national parks a win for tourism, biodiversity and threatened species: Close
The Hon. Susan Close, Deputy Premier of SA, Minister for Climate, Environment and Water (SA). Almost 725 hectares – the equivalent of 450 Adelaide Ovals – are being added to three popular SA’s parks, providing more access and better protection to our state’s natural attractions ... Murray River National Park and Maize Lagoon Conservation Park in the Riverland, as well as Sceale Bay Conservation Park on Eyre Peninsula, will be expanded.

Ley set to retain seat
Despite a swing against her, and Labor winning the federal election in a landslide, Liberal Party incumbent Sussan Ley appears poised to retain the seat of Farrer. At time of publication Ms Ley held an estimated 62 per cent of the vote, ahead of first-time independent candidate Michelle Milthorpe, who is expected to capture more than 20 per cent of the vote tally.

Voting in Alice: Caning for CLP, small growth for Greens
Labor’s Marion Scrymgour extended her margin in all but one of the seven Alice Springs booths during the landslide Federal election on Saturday. The sitting Member for the massive seat of Lingiari, more or less all of the Territory except Darwin and Palmerston, in the town council polling place got almost 10 per cent more votes than three years ago, and achieved a 7.96 per cent margin in Gillen.
