Making the switch from Telstra Velocity Network to Opticomm Network
A wave of residents in Yanchep, Alkimos, Butler and Brighton (in Velocity connected areas) is set to make the switch from the legacy Telstra Velocity network to the upgraded Opticomm network from August 2023 onwards. Opticomm has upgraded the Telstra Velocity network ahead of the transition to provide residents with access to more reliable connectivity.

Telstra’s “big project” rejected
Telecommunications company Telstra is seeking ratepayer funding to help build towers in the Limestone Coast region as part of a "big project". In a proposal to the Naracoorte-Lucindale Council, a Telstra SA and Tasmania area general manager Michael Patterson outlined Telstra's proposal for the South-East, asking for a five percent funding investment by the council.

Optus outrage following major outage
For more than a week, Optus customers in Copmanhurst, Whiteman Creek, Jackadgery and surrounding areas were unable to make, send, or receive phone calls or text messages, after the network experienced a major outage due to a hardware fault in a nearby tower. Between February 13 and 21, hundreds of people experienced disruptions to their services while the telecommunications giant addressed the problem, with many venting their frustrations on social media.

Controversial tower gets green light from council
Sarah Martin. Cook Shire Council has approved a controversial 26-metre Telstra tower on Cooktown’s main street, despite community concerns ... Cook Shire received 23 submissions during the public notification period, with only two in favour of the tower. However, mayor Peter Scott said the decision to approve the tower at last week’s ordinary council meeting took into account the community’s concerns and the communication benefits the tower would provide.

The Torres Cape Indigenous Councils Alliance was briefed by Telstra on upcoming major works earlier this month, including a plan to introduce a 4G network in Lockhart River starting next year. But mayor Wayne Butcher said lives will remain at risk until mobile phone reception improves in the area.
