This year was the 20th anniversary of the ANZAC Day Service at the Nuggetty Peace Cairn in Nuggetty School Road. A strong attendance included local families, visitors and the hosts, Nuggetty Landcare members.
President of Nuggetty Landcare, Christine Fitzgerald, conducted the service which has always focused on the contribution of local people to the defence of our country.
Christine spoke of the history of the Peace Cairn and the development of the site over the last 20 years. The Peace Cairn was erected on the site of the old Nuggetty School by the Moss family to celebrate the end of World War I and their son’s safe return from the Western Front.

Over the years, the service has profiled local people who have served our nation during wartime. Nuggetty Landcare has installed plaques at the site listing all their names and a plaque describing the origin of the Peace Cairn. Local horseman, Toby Collins, rode into the service carrying the Australian flag symbolising the significant contribution horses have played during war. Daniel Clark sounded the Last Post and Rouse and young Nicholas Clark performed flag duty.

The crowd enjoyed a special service on a beautiful autumn day in a pleasant bush setting. Capping off the day was the opportunity for everyone to enjoy the legendary afternoon tea and socialise.
