The Nhill & District Racing Club celebrated a wonderful day on Boxing Day at the DMD Nhill Cup. The weather was ideal and the support from the Nhill and surrounding communities was just perfect. Just over 1100 people flocked to the Nhill Racecourse for the annual Boxing Day race meeting.

The Paul Preusker trained Sirius Black won the feature race of the day, the DMD Nhill Cup with Harry Grace riding. Paul and Holly are Horsham based trainers and great supporters of the Nhill & District Racing Club, travelling many horses to race at Nhill over the years.

The Luv-A-Duck Fashions on the Field was hotly contested amongst entrants, with ladies, gents and children wearing their finest race wear and taking home some wonderful prizes.

Horsham band HeadRusH were a big hit entertaining racegoers after the last on stage. Many racegoers stayed back and enjoyed the live music into the evening.

Committee member Tony Gebert presented the Nhill Cup to Holly McKechnie on race day. Tony took the opportunity to thank his fellow committee members and the club’s major Nhill Cup sponsor DMD for their support of the club. DMD are a wonderful local sponsor who assist many community groups such as ours and we are incredibly grateful for their sponsorship of the DMD Nhill Cup. I’d also like to acknowledge the following businesses for their support including Nhill IGA, Azza’s Tyres, Nhill Silos, Horsham Wool, Western General Insurance Agencies, Luv-A-Duck, Wimmera Bearings, bet365 and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).

Gebert urged everyone to support the 2026 DMD Nhill Cup on Boxing Day.
