Alexandra Pastoral & Agricultural Association
November 8 is looking to be a cracking day on the Spring event calendar in Alexandra, with the Pastoral and Agricultural Show celebrating its 140th event.
The Committee is incredibly grateful to all the community groups and businesses who see the value in their event and support them either financially or in kind. This year, they wish to make special mention of Elders Yea and Alexandra who have come on board as Champion sponsors, as well as blue ribbon sponsors, Taggerty Vet Clinic and Eildon Outboard and Marine. The Rotary Club will also be instrumental in assisting on the Gates as well as the CFA and SES who will once again have large displays and the Alexandra Scouts who will be providing breakfast and lunch.
Entertainment for the day will be plentiful. As well as the regular displays in the Ladies Pavilion, School Work shed and the gymkhana, they will once again be hosting competition Yard Dog trials thanks to the Cavill family who have been long time supporters of the Show; displays by Alexandra and District Dog Obedience Club; the much loved Pet Parade and music from Paul Ray and his amazingly talented singers.
The day keeps filling up with displays from a local line dancing group, hobby horse competition (yes, you can enter on the day), pedal cars, donkey display and Tubby the Robot who will be on site as roaming entertainment.
The Alexandra Poultry Club will once again be expecting a large number of competing birds on the day and club secretary, Gail Kneeshaw is encouraging all junior owners to enter their birds in the show this year. Competing at a local show level is a great opportunity for younger owners to compete in a supportive environment and gain valuable experience for other events. It’s also an opportunity to connect with experienced exhibitors who can offer valuable insight.
Not to be outdone, the Alexandra Pony Club has joined forces with other local clubs to offer competition on the day. With a larger showing expected, it will be a great experience for younger riders and for those maybe not sure if they wish to join the club, to see what it is all about. In conjunction with a number of other rings that will be running on the day, the oval is set for a work out.

If all the entertainment and movement gets a bit much, it’s good to know that you can get a Devonshire tea at the Ladies Pavilion and peruse the displays of cooking, horticulture, photography, handcrafts, fruit and vegetables and eggs; or maybe an ice cream and watch the pet parade. All this before having a cruise through the Showmans’ Guild Alley and then listening to the live reporting from UGFM who will also be on site for the day.
So, for a day of getting back to farming, and seeing what our local people are up to, come on down to the Alexandra Show. More information can be found at alexandrashow.com or by emailing pna.alexandra@gmail.com.
