Every vintage vehicle enthusiast rolled out on the right side of bed on Sunday 10 August, it seemed, and decided to hit the road.

It was the right weather for Sunday Driving, with markets and cafes drawing visitors, so the streets of Maldon were lined with cars of all kinds. There was a row of Chrysler Valiants, a Studebaker Hawk and an Austin Healey for the spotters.

The edges of Maldon Market were lined with more modern makes of car; the dappled sunshine, guitar music and relaxed crowd made it a very pleasant place to spend Sunday.

Maldon Tennis Club volunteers managed the gate and the sausage sizzle, while there was a roaring trade in coffee and seedlings.

You don’t need a vintage vehicle for Sunday Driving because it’s only partly about the car. It’s about enjoying the ride, slowing down and just taking it easy, like a Sunday morning…
