Local players shine at National Basketball Championships

Local basketball stars Nate Mercer of Kadina and Eva Harris of Paskeville represented South Australia Country at the under 16 National Basketball Championships in Bendigo between July 5 and 13.

Mercer was a standout in his team, averaging 14.6 points per game coupled with 2.6 steals leading his team to a 9-3 win record.

His best performance came against Queensland North where he scored 23 points to go along with seven rebounds, one assist, four steals and two blocks.

Harris’ team only managing two wins but played well as a team. Harris shone at the defensive end, averaging 3.71 rebounds and a steal per game.

Her best performance came against Australian Capital Territory when she had seven points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal in her team’s first victory.

Both of the young stars enjoyed their experience and represented their clubs and community with pride across the tournament.
