Forestry Australia, Media Release, 10 April 2025

The 2025 Forest Carbon Summit commences today, April 10, and continues tomorrow, April 11, at the National Press Club in Canberra, spotlighting the pivotal role of forests and carbon management in Australia’s net-zero future.

With a federal election underway and environmental issues—forests, carbon, and climate—at the heart of the debate, this summit brings together leading voices to shape the conversation.

Among the standout speakers are **Anna Skarbek**, CEO of Climateworks Centre, and **Dr. Rob Waterworth**, Chief Science, Policy, and Innovation Officer at FLINTpro. Skarbek will deliver a keynote on “Contributions of Forests to Net-Zero,” unveiling a groundbreaking spatial optimisation model developed with Deakin University and CSIRO.

Ms Skarbek will explore how Australia can balance carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and sustainable forestry while bolstering economic resilience and protecting ecosystems.

Waterworth will offer “Reflections on the Future,” drawing on his 25 years of expertise in land-sector monitoring to discuss innovative tools like FLINTpro’s SaaS platform, which revolutionizes carbon reporting.

“This summit is a critical platform at a defining moment,” said Jacquie Martin, CEO of Forestry Australia.

“With Skarbek and Waterworth—both titans in climate and land management—we’re set to unpack actionable solutions amidst an election where the environment could sway votes,” Ms Martin said.

Skarbek, a veteran advisor on net-zero policy and a newly appointed Net Zero Economy Authority member, and Waterworth, an IPCC lead author and Telstra Best of Business Awards winner, bring unmatched insight to the table.

Held against the backdrop of a fiercely contested election, the Crest Carbon Summit promises to ignite debate and drive policy focus on forests and carbon as key levers for Australia’s climate ambitions. Media are invited to attend both days at the National Press Club, Barton, ACT.
