Spreading kindness one dish at a time
Lasagna Love, March 2025
Lasagna Love, a global volunteer-led movement delivering homemade meals to neighbours in need, has reached a major milestone in Australia—1,000 homecooked lasagnas shared with local families.
Originally founded in the United States in 2020, Lasagna Love has since expanded worldwide, including a growing community of Australian volunteers who are cooking and delivering meals to people facing hardship. Whether it’s a struggling family amid the rising cost of living, a single parent juggling work and kids, a student living far from home, or someone recovering from illness, Lasagna Love’s mission is simple: feed families, spread kindness, and strengthen communities.
A movement of mateship and generosity
Michelle Pavey, Australian Regional Director of Lasagna Love, shares the impact volunteering as a chef has had on her own life, “From the moment I first heard of Lasagna Love, I knew that I had to be a part of it”, Pavey reflects.
“The fact that we aim to spread love and kindness, with no questions asked or judgement placed on a requester, truly makes this a humbling experience and ensures that recipients can keep their head high, with a sense of dignity.”
Pavey says “it has been a privilege to grow Lasagna Love’s presence in Australia, directly engaging communities from Alice Springs to Toowoomba to Mount Gambia, as well as our all of our capital cities, to support their neighbours, building friendships and our own community of lasagna chefs across every state and territory.”
Kindness without barriers
Lasagna Love is powered by volunteers, and anyone can sign up to cook and deliver meals in their local area. Volunteers make lasagnas using their own ingredients, time, and heart, ensuring that those in need feel cared for.
Andria Larson, Executive Director of Lasagna Love, describes the milestone as a testament to the power of small acts of kindness.
“Reaching 1,000 deliveries in Australia proves how a simple homecooked meal can bring comfort, dignity, and a sense of belonging. It’s not just about addressing food insecurity—it’s about showing up for each other and building stronger, more connected communities,” says Larson.
Bega Local Leader
When NSW Local Leader, Amy Whiter, first heard about Lasagna Love, she was thrilled. She had been looking for a way to help out in her local community and had struggled to find a way that fit into her busy life. “It can be tricky to help out when you are working through the day or are juggling life as a Mum!”
After experiencing her own fair share of life’s ups and downs, Amy knew first hand how much something as simple as a home cooked meal could mean to a family going through their own ‘stuff’.
Despite living in the small rural town of Bega on the Far South Coast of NSW, Amy was able to sign up as a volunteer right away, and was soon encouraged by Regional Director, Michelle Pavey, to complete the training to become a Local Leader. “I have loved being able to provide lasagnas to families in need, right in my local community here in Bega, but I am also so proud be a part of the growth we are seeing in NSW, and right across Australia.”
When asked about her most memorable delivery in the small town of Bega, Amy is delighted to share a story that really demonstrates the essence of Lasagna Love’s mission, particularly in remote or regional communities.
“I was matched with a family who lived quite out of the way. Rather than have me tackle the sometimes challenging dirt road out to their remote property (or risk me getting lost along the way!), they asked if I could deliver their lasagna to the nearest post office and they would collect it from there. Of course I could!”
