The Shire of Denmark has received $193,050 from the State Government’s Mitigation Activity Fund towards 47 bushfire mitigation works in the shire this year.
The annual bushfire risk reduction works will continue with those funded through the Mitigation Activity Fund identified as priorities.
This is based on the level of risk and work in combination with a bigger local mitigation effort.
They include the annual Shire parks and reserves team’s annual works, State Government departments’ hazard reductions and private property owners complying with the annual firebreak and fuel management notice.
The Shire received the funding to carry out the most bushfire mitigation works of all 15 West Australian local governments which were funded.
Shire president Kingsley Gibson said it took a community effort to reduce the bushfire risk.
“When we work together combining the efforts of residents, local government and State Government, we can reduce the threat to lives and homes in our Shire,” Councillor Gibson said.
The ranger services team had reported that annual firebreak and fuel management notice property compliance inspections had recorded that 85 per cent of inspected properties were compliant.
Cr Gibson thanked all residents for taking the Shire bushfire risk seriously this year.
Residents who were not already members of bushfire ready groups should consider joining their local group or joining a bushfire brigade.
