Community comes together for reflection

Recent stories

An event that provides an opportunity to acknowledge those whose lives have been lost in our community will be held in Corryong next week.

The third annual ‘Corryong Spirit’ event will shine a light into the darkness of grief and the guest speakers include former AFL footballer Justin Koschitzke and Rev Tim Costello, one of Australia’s most respected community leaders.

Justin’s deep connection to the farming community drives his mission to support and uplift those who are often overlooked and underserved.

In recent years, he has dedicated himself to being a mental health advocate, focusing on the unique struggles faced by rural communities.

He and Warren Davies, aka the Unbreakable Farmer, will share their stories and speak about the importance of seeking help when needed.

Mr Davies, who is a member of the organising committee of Corryong Spirit, has an affinity with the Upper Murray through his involvement with post-bushfire recovery efforts.

Mr Davies said one of the most potent parts of an event like Corryong Spirit is the acknowledgement of the ongoing ripple effects of suicide and loss in a close-knit community.

The other main speaker, Rev Tim Costello, is one of Australia’s most respected community leaders and a sought after voice on social justice issues, leadership and ethics.

The main musical act at the event is local five-piece group Mountain Alliance (pictured) whose blend of instruments, ages and genres combine traditional folk with popular music to create captivating covers for the whole family to enjoy.

Corryong Spirit will be held on Friday August 16th from 5pm to 7.30pm in the Attree Centre. Bring a chair or picnic rug and warm blankets and beanies. If you or someone you know needs help, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
