It’s most likely the most celebrated number in Donald’s list for current and past players.
First, number 7 was on the guernsey of Gary Young, winner of North-Central’s Feeny Medal.
In the next generation, Gary’s son, Ross, won both the Feeny Medal and the Sandover Medal, the latter as the best player in the Western Australian Football League.
And on Saturday, at Nullawil, number 7 was also proudly displayed in the under-14s game by George and Will Young, sons of Ross, and grandsons of Gary.
The boys normally play for the Surf Coast Suns (in Torquay) – Will in the under-9s and George in the under-10s (generally on Friday nights or first thing Saturday morning).
Post that, and when it works, it’s straight up the highway to get to Donald games to be mascots and play mini’s at half-time.
On Saturday, Surf Coast Suns had the bye and numbers were a bit short in Donald due to school holidays. The brothers trained on Thursday night and got the call up for the weekend’s game.
It’s hoped there’s more games for the boys at Donald in the future!
