You’re invited to the launch of Miffy & Mack in Maldon – a book of cartoons for children of all ages by local resident Anita Sinclair. With the support of Maldon’s Athenaeum Library, Miffy and Mack will make their appearance at the Maldon Community Centre on Saturday 18 May, from 2pm to 4pm.
Miffy and Mack are two appealing pups who were created some years ago by Anita in response to a request from the Tarrangower Times for a regular cartoon strip for the children’s page – preferably with a local twist. Anita came up with the goods, and more. The cartoon ran each week for two years, and was popular with readers both young and not so young.
Miffy & Mack includes all the cartoons that originally appeared in the [Tarrangower ] Times, together with some extra material. The cartoons are wonderful – with a light hand, a sense of fun and a touch of educational content, Anita has created two doggy characters who lead an adventurous life in Maldon.
Miffy & Mack isn’t Anita’s first rodeo – it is the sixth book that she has had published. When talking to Anita about her professional life, you get the feeling that there’s no end to this woman’s creativity. Over the years, she has taught, mentored, acted, sculpted, painted, drawn, designed and stitched costumes, built stage sets, made puppets, created masks and written scripts and books. And that’s by no means an exhaustive list!
A Maldon resident since 2008 (“apart from two years of exile in Castlemaine”), Anita is at the top of her game. She may be getting on in years, but has a sharp intellect and a keenly observant eye.
It’s important to note that children are most welcome at the book launch, and Christof the Clown will be on hand to provide some entertainment for them. Bring your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, the next door neighbours’ children – they’ll enjoy the show!
