Congratulation to Love Lord Howe for winning Gold at the Australian Tourism Awards!

Danielle and Alasdair Nicolson attended the 2024 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Darwin on 15 March and won GOLD for Excellence in Food Tourism – a well-deserved achievement! We congratulate and thank Love Lord Howe for representing and showcasing Lord Howe Island to the world. Danielle said, ‘It was our honour and privilege to represent Lord Howe on a national stage and hopefully this win will increase tourism to our beautiful Island.’

Destination North Coast Board visit

The Destination North Coast Board (DNC) visited Lord Howe Island from 18 – 22 March for the first time to hold their annual Board meeting and to meet and discuss tourism with local businesses and stakeholders. The group visiting Lord Howe Island included General Manager Michael Thurston, Industry Engagement Manager Jacquie Burnside, Chair John O’Neil and directors Meredith Wrey, Margaret Shannon and Julie Steward.

The visit was a great opportunity to meet with industry experts and discuss tourism-related matters, including visitor economy, opportunities, and challenges on Lord Howe Island. The DNC Board met with the LHITA, multiple local businesses and the Lord Howe Island Board. Furthermore, they hosted a Networking Event at the Museum, where they presented industry insights followed by a question session based on key themes identified in a survey sent out to members prior to their arrival.

The group also went on a Coral Viewing and Snorkel Tour with Lord Howe Environmental Tours, tasted Lord Howe Island Gin with Lord Howe Island Distilling Co, had a picnic with Love Lord Howe and visited the Lord Howe Island Brewery for pizzas and beers.

We look forward to working closely with the DNC on our upcoming projects aligning with the new Destination Management Plan.
