After a successful trial of Puppy Carers in the South East, Australian Lions Hearing Dogs are so excited to announce another Puppy Socialiser Information Session. This information session will provide attendees all the information they need of what it takes to open their home and hearts to one of our adorable future Assistance Dogs. As well as being aimed at those with flexible schedules, we also welcome those interested in our Puppy Program who live in a one-hour radius of our South East ‘base’ in Naracoorte. Light refreshments will be available for those attending via the Naracoorte Lions Club.

This information session will be held on Tuesday the 3rd of April at 2pm at the Naracoorte Lions Den on Deviation Road in Naracoorte. This session will go for approximately one hour and be hosted by Puppy Socialisation Instructor, Sarah, and Board Member and Puppy Carer, Margie. This Information session would of course not be complete without the attendance of pups who are currently in our Puppy Program with their volunteer carers. This will also give attendees the opportunity to ask any burning questions they may have to our staff and current volunteers.

Being a Puppy Socialiser is a life-changing experience for our volunteers and a role without which we can’t continue our programs. The Puppy Socialisation program recruits volunteers that can commit to taking a young puppy into their home and fostering them before they are ready to enter full-time training to become an Assistance Dog.

It costs nothing to get involved in either program, but your time is incredibly valuable to us.

ALHD provides all food, equipment, bedding, and veterinary care for all dogs in the program; we’d like to ask you to please make yourself available to give each puppy a loving home to grow into. We will always be available to support you and the puppy.

Being a Puppy Socialiser in the South-East will also involve fortnightly Zoom meetings with our Puppy Program team and a monthly commitment to an in-person group obedience class locally. You must also spend time with the puppy daily and provide regular exercise and mental stimulation, have a fully fenced yard and be willing to have the puppy sleep inside your house, in a crate provided by ALHD. We understand that everyone has different circumstances so if interested, still please attend, or get in contact to discuss further arrangements.
