Town wide garage sales

Recent stories

Mark Blythe, Tarrangower Times

Everybody the [Tarrangower] Times spoke to was very complimentary about last weekend’s town wide garage sale, and were quick to label it a great success. The weather was stellar for the occasion, which is always a bonus. The final wash up was 203 maps sold at two dollars each and 71 houses on the map including the 10 at the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre at $10 each, so all in all a tidy sum to the MNC to continue their good works.

A recurring theme that came back to the [Tarrangower] Times from buyers and sellers alike was the seeming lack of coordination between other Neighbourhood Centres throughout the region about picking different weekends. Two other ‘town-wide garage sales’ were held over the same weekend, undoubtedly stealing some of Maldon’s thunder. Perhaps this is a matter that could be addressed in the future.

All the buyers the [Tarrangower] Times approached had nothing but praise for the friendliness of the sellers. Likewise, sellers without exception said buyers were happy, chatty, and generally just ‘pleased as punch’ to be having a fantastic day out in Maldon.

The [Tarrangower] Times found it interesting that everybody spoken to was either a local, came from Castlemaine or came from Bendigo. There did not seem to be many at all from Melbourne. Map sales were down because of it.

Speaking of maps, food for thought! Maldon’s maps $2, Trentham’s maps $3 and Woodend’s maps were $5! All in all a great day had by all.
