Festival of Small Halls heading to Baringhup

Recent stories

In a much-anticipated event, Baringhup Hall is set to resonate with the melodies of folk music on Thursday, 14 March, welcoming an international lineup featuring Icelandic folk singer Svavar Knútur, Australian folk duo The Maes, and Tarrengower’s own Grim Fawkner.

The doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start, marking a first for Mount Alexander Shire under the auspices of the Festival of Small Halls, a touring extension of the renowned Woodford Folk Festival.

Svavar Knútur, from Iceland’s remote north, shares his eagerness to return to Australia, reminiscing about his past tours and the inspirational music they fostered. The Maes, sisters Maggie and Elsie Rigby, echo this sentiment, highlighting their deep connection to regional performances and their inaugural tour with the Festival of Small Halls a decade ago. Local guitarist Grim Fawkner expresses his excitement about representing his home and the beautiful Djaara Country.

The Baringhup Community Committee is thrilled to host this blend of international and national artists, promising an evening of soulful music, community connection, and a light supper, with Shedshaker Brewing providing refreshments. Proceeds from the event will bolster community initiatives, making the festival not just a celebration of music but a meaningful contribution to local development.

Tickets are available online http://www.festivalofsmallhalls.com/Baringhup-2024, ensuring access to an unforgettable night of folk music and community spirit.
