Australia Day volunteers serve about 700 breakfasts

Recent stories

At the Australia Day breakfast in Two Rocks yesterday volunteers served about 700 breakfasts with assembly-line precision to community members and families.

Organised and run by the Yanchep Two Rocks Community Recreation Association (YTRCRA) the breakfast has been held since 1991 when it started as a sausage sizzle in the park.

When YTRCRA president Julie Otremba and her husband Andrew (deceased) took over in 1996 they adopted the sit-down breakfast format at the Phil Renkin Community Centre that continues today.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken presented the citizen of the year award to Yanchep Two Rocks RSL president Bill Jones at the YTRCRA award ceremony, which takes place at the conclusion of the breakfast.

Pearce MHR Tracey Roberts sponsored and presented the community group of the year award with Bill Anderson of Yanchep accepting the award on behalf of the Yanchep Two Rocks Community Bus, which celebrated its 30th year in October 2019.

This year YTRCRA awarded two youth achiever awards, which went to Yanchep Secondary College students Phoebe Clune and Darcy Jackson.

Mrs Otremba thanked all the volunteers, including family members and the Two Rocks Youth in Emergency Cadets.

Two Rocks IGA, the City of Wanneroo and Yanchep Sun City also supported the breakfast.
