King Charles III and Queen Camilla as guests of this year’s Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers? That is the aim of Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald.
The King and Queen have announced that they will be visiting Australia during the spring of 2024, in what will mark their first visit to our country since Charles became Monarch.
In response to hearing this, Mayor McDonald said he has written to the Governor General Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) seeking advice on the appropriate way of expressing the interest of the Toowoomba Region community to host a potential visit for the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers in 2024.
King Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth II, visited Toowoomba and Oakey in March 1954 as part of her Coronation tour.
“It would be most appropriate to welcome the new monarch to the Toowoomba Region on his coronation tour to Australia,” Mayor McDonald said.
