Campaspe Shire Council, Media Release, 25 August 2023

More than 120 members of the Rochester community attended Campaspe Shire Council’s flood recovery community information session held at the Rochester Shire Hall on Tuesday, 22 August.

Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Rob Amos opened the event which brought together major stakeholders involved in the flood recovery process, including representatives from Council, the Victorian Government, water authorities, local emergency services, and agencies such as Anglicare and Mind Australia.

“The evening was a great opportunity for the Rochester community to hear the latest information firsthand from the stakeholders, ask questions and connect with other residents over supper,” Cr Amos said.

“Attendees also enjoyed a presentation on wellbeing and resilience by Australian television presenter and Beyond Blue ambassador Brad McEwan.

“Having grown up in regional Victoria, Brad was a familiar face to many in the audience and his messages around mental health and wellbeing resonated with people of all ages and walks of life.”

The audience also heard updates on: Council’s current emergency management and advocacy activities; Emergency Recovery Victoria’s Recovery Support Workers, Structural Assessment program and Homes in Homes program; Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action’s study on Lake Eppalock; and the Public Hearings on the Inquiry into the 2022 Flood Event in Victoria.

This is the first large-scale community information session organised by Campaspe Shire Council’s new Flood Recovery Team which operates out of the new Recovery Hub at 48 Mackay Street in Rochester.

The team is running a Building Information Session at the Rochester Shire Hall on Wednesday, 13 September from 3-6pm to help residents in the process of reconstructing and/or repairing their flood-damaged properties.
