Roll-up, roll-up and get ready to experience the razzle and dazzle of this year’s Narrandera Show. Celebrating its 140th year, there will a be spectacle of showtime amusement for the entire family to enjoy.

Running on Saturday, September 3, the show is Narrandera’s longest running annual event, attracting thousands of people each year and this year will be welcomed back in spectacular style after having been put on hold due to Covid-19.

As part of this year’s event, the Lighthorse Show is not to be missed, which will see some members want participating in the open of the Stockman’s Challenge at 11am, with demonstrations running at 1pm and 3pm.

The Car Show is anticipated to wow attendees, with cars expected from the Narrandera Auto Club, Narrandera Vintage Machinery Club and the Leeton Vintage and Veteran Car Club.

Narrandera Auto Club secretary, Michael Steele said, “The car show will be held at the main entrance of the showgrounds.

“We are expecting to have a range of vehicles including vintage cars and bikes on show.

“Hopefully we will get between 20 and 30 vehicles of various models, but more in the classic 60s-70s style.”

The main arena by the main gate will be home to the Narrandera Truck Show this year, with trucks expected to will arrive between 7am and 9am. Judging of different categories will take place at 1.30pm.

Truck Show event co-organiser, Ben Davies said, “It’s all about raising money for a couple of local charities and we are hoping to put on quite a show with a number of trucks expected on the day. We are expecting it to be a ripper of a day.”

Narrandera Show Society president, Phil Wright said, “This year is going to be a bit bigger being our 140th celebration and the show society is looking forward to it just as much as the community is.

“The first show was held on September 4, 1882, so we will be a day out from 140 years since the show first began. Our horse dressage event has been a part of the show every year since 1882, but unfortunately this year we are not able to run it as we had some trouble finding a steward to organise the horses.

“We’ve only missed out on about five or six shows and that’s only been in the last 15 years.

“A little bit of interesting news on the society’s front is that the show society’s oldest surviving member, Mrs Mavis Slochum, turned 100 years last month, so this year’s show will be something a little bit special for her to have been a part of organising.

“We are also very cautious about how the fireworks effect animals and so we would appreciated for people to take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their animals.”

The main gate opens at 11am and showgoers can enjoy the day of excitement until 5pm. The official opening of the show will be conducted by Mayor, Neville Kschenka at 12pm in Pioneer Hall and will follow-on with the drawing of the $1,000 raffle. Gate 2 will also be open from 5:30pm-6pm to give the visitors the chance to enjoy the fireworks from within the show-grounds.
