Local Tourist Hero: Brenda has something to shout about

Recent stories

It’s most likely you know about Casino’s unofficial town crier Brenda Armfield. And you definitely would have heard her voice.

Brenda’s spruiking of the town she loves was recognised when she was named Local Tourism Hero for her support of Richmond Valley events and tourism.

If there is an event on, Brenda is in her green Moke decorated with cows and balloons and as she is driven through the streets she is on the loud hailer telling everyone about Beef Week.

“I love Casino and I love the community,” Brenda said.

The announcement of Local Tourist Hero was made at the North Coast Tourism Symposium and Awards Gala Dinner in Grafton.

When Brenda was told she said she was shocked.

“It means a lot to me. It’s a privilege to receive the award. I feel very humbled,” she said.

Brenda is also a life member of both the Casino Beef Week Festival and Casino Show Society. She is on COW FM community radio station every week and her show includes the popular ‘down memory lane’ segment.

She has been involved in the Casino Historical Society, Casino Orchid Society and is a member of Casino Men’s Shed and the Casino View Club.

Yet it is the 35 years in the Moke that she is most known for.

Brenda started performing, singing, dancing and performing comedy from the age of four.

Richmond Valley Council said in a statement, “we all love and cherish her and were proud to nominate her as our Local Tourism Hero.”
