Rams ribboned

Recent stories

The Australian Sheep and Wool show was held at Bendigo on the weekend after a two year hiatus due to Covid-19.

The three-day event did attempt to run in 2021, but a snap lockdown saw producers caught out with stock already on site for the show.

Wakool stud ram producer, Guy Treweek of Induro White Suffolks, said it was great to be back.

“It’s good to be back, it was a huge event this year, they broke all attendance records, even by the Saturday night with a day to go.”

“I think people wanted to get back out and see some sheep with their eyes instead of on a computer screen.

It was extremely well supported.”

Guy had 16 rams go to the show, with 12 coming away with a ribbon, with the top ribbon being Reserve Senior Champion.

“It was the best result we have got, I’m pretty happy with that,” he said.

Guy said this is a good warm-up for his Induro White Suffolks as they lead into the bigger sales events starting in six weeks.

“This is like a bit of an audition to get them all calm and quiet and break them in a bit, getting used to people.”

“In six weeks’ time, we have the Elite White Suffolk sale in Bendigo and then a week after that, I head over to the Adelaide Show.”

Guy’s rams are sold all over Australia and he is looking forward to building his numbers back after reducing them due to a dry season.

“We’ve got 250 rams for sale this year and maybe some ram lambs.”

“It’s taken me two years to try and catch the numbers back.

I think they’ll finally get enough lambs on the ground this year to catch next year.”

All eyes will now be on the heavens as producers look for a follow up rain to keep the feed growing.
