Cactus control field trip

Recent stories

Lee Mead, Tarrangower Times

A group of 15 tertiary students from Monash University came to the Tarrangower Cactus Control Group field day yesterday, to help us in the war on Wheel Cactus.

The event was held in the Maldon Historic Reserve, at the back of the Mount, where they thoroughly enjoyed the natural landscapes and local views.

The very enthusiastic group were from the Monash University Biological Society, which organises an annual midyear field trip to help us, and has been coming every year since 2012 (except during the you-know-what).

The students learn about the enormous negative impacts and challenges of environmental weeds and assist in weed management, and Parks Victoria score some dead Wheel Cactus plants.

The Tarrangower Cactus Control Group thanks Parks Victoria for the collaboration and the Mount Alexander Shire Council for providing funding for this event.
