“It’s truly an honour to be re-elected as the Federal Member for Bendigo. The result for Labor in this region is amazing, and I am humbled to receive a swing towards us,” said MP Chesters.
“Now the hard work begins. There’s a lot of work for our government to do.
“I’ll be focusing on delivering the commitments that Labor made to the region.”
MP Chesters has voiced her continued commitment to a community battery for Maldon to assist in cutting electricity bills and emissions while reducing pressure on the grid.
More than 50% of Maldon dwellings are powered by solar panels, however, there are currently no battery systems registered in Maldon. Unfortunately, the high price of batteries means Maldon is not able to realise the full potential of rooftop solar, which is, in turn, putting additional pressure on the electricity grid.
Another benefit to a community battery would be the ability for renters who are unable to install solar panels to be able to draw excess energy stored in the battery.
As an advocate for renewable energy, MP Chesters has outlined the Labor government’s continued commitment to reduce net emissions, “It’s time to take climate change seriously,” said MP Chesters.
“Labor will adopt the carbon-neutral target of zero net emissions by the year 2050 and enshrine this target in legislation. Labor will also invest $20 billion to modernise Australia’s energy grid to spur growth in cheap, green renewable energy production and keep power prices down.”
