The new purpose-built BRADAAG treatment facility is a step closer after the organisation announced this week it has started consultations with community stakeholders around its location and design.
On behalf of Barkly Regional Alcohol and Drug Abuse Advisory Group (BRADAAG) directors, Chairperson Elliot McAdam said he has written to stakeholders inviting them for input.
“The process to reach a decision on the location and the design of the facility would be open and transparent and local community members and organisations would have every opportunity to be involved,” he said.
“With the new Board of Directors, and myself as Chair of BRADAGG commencing in March this year, we are keen to start moving ahead with a clean slate on this sorely needed alcohol and other drug (AOD) therapeutic treatment facility.
“The NT Government first committed funding towards a new facility in 2018.
“This issue has dragged on for far too long, compromising the wellbeing and welfare of people who are impacted by alcohol and other drug abuse.
“Our community deserves the best possible facilities and services delivered in as timely and transparent a process as can be managed.
“We have written to key organisations in Tennant Creek informing them of the intended process and timelines, inviting them to participate in discussions to identify a suitable location and have input into the design of a therapeutic treatment facility.
“BRADAAG is aiming to have proposals for a location to the NT Government in six weeks.
“Consultations on the design will take place concurrently.”
