Last Saturday a large crowd gathered at the Shelbourne silos for the unveiling of a series of plaques, celebrating the history of the Shelbourne Railway Station.
The plaques are part of Nuggetty Landcare Groups historical projects, including producing calendars and conducting railway walks from Nuggetty to the silos.
Jane Mitchell, an active member of the group for the past 14 years, who lived directly across from the silos, was particularly passionate about keeping the silos intact and unpainted.
Treasurer of Nuggetty Land Protection Group, Christine Fitzgerald, told the Times, “Jane and a few others put together a submission to to Loddon Shire Council to have plaques made, detailing the history of the railway station. After Jane died last year, a group of us got together and finished the project.”
The event was held on the one-year-anniversary of Jane’s death, to pay tribute to her work on the project and was attended by many of her family and friends.
“It was an emotional day. It was a celebration of Jane. I think she would have been thrilled,” said Christine.
