The format of the 2022 tournament will be consistent with previous Imparja Cup events with teams able to nominate for the following divisions:

– Major Centres Division presented by Yeperenye Shopping Centre

– Men’s Community Division presented by DXC Technology

– Women’s Community Division

The Schools Cup also returns in 2022, with schools from around the Red Centre encouraged to register their interest in participating.

There will also be a Community Cricket (Level 1) coaching accreditation course on 15 February 2022.

The first Imparja Cup match was held on Australia Day in 1994 as an initiative of Shane and Mervyn Franey from Alice Springs and Ross Williams from Tennant Creek. NT Cricket came on board in 1998 to support the logistics.

Registration is free and open to new and past teams from the Northern Territory. To find out more and to register, visit www.ntcricket.com.au/imparjacup

The Imparja Cup will be held in compliance with Chief Health Officer Directions.

Quotes from Minister for Major Events Natasha Fyles:

“The Imparja Cup is a significant platform for Aboriginal cricketers and provides pathways for progression.

“Current Australian representatives D’Arcy Short, Ashleigh Garner and Hannah Darlington all played in the Imparja Cup as juniors.”

Quote from Joel Morrison, CEO, NT Cricket:

“The Imparja Cup is a significant part of cricket in the Territory with a rich culture, so we are delighted to be in a position to stage the 2022 event. We are looking forward to another great celebration of cricket, country and culture in the Red Centre, the spiritual home of Indigenous cricket.

“A big thank you must go to Imparja Television, the NT Government and Alice Springs Town Council for their ongoing support of this event. It would not be possible without them and the support of all our commercial partners.”
