Recent stories

Whyalla City Council, Media Release, 18 August 2021

Local Whyalla resident and proud Barngarla woman Jody Croft was recently commissioned by Whyalla City Council to create four original artworks to fit the newly designed First Nation Trail from Douglas Point North to Fitzgerald Bay.

These artworks have been developed for the signs along the trail.

This trail is part of the major development for the Northern coastline, currently being undertaken. Jody engaged three other artists, Jason, Breanna and Thomas Croft to help with the commission.

The artworks will be reproduced at relevant interpretive sites and on two major First Nation Trail information signs at Douglas Point North and Fitzgerald Bay.

The artworks are also important contribution to the City of Whyalla Art Collection.

Until now, the City owned only 2 original Aboriginal artworks.

The artworks will eventually be on display at the Council Chamber.

The concept of the trail and texts were developed by Paul Mazourek, City of Whyalla in cooperation with Barngarla Elders.
