Emergency location area for horses and large animals in Wanneroo
Wanneroo councillors have given their approval for the city to enter a memorandum of understanding with the Wanneroo Trotting and Training Club for a temporary animal relocation area during emergencies such as bushfires. During the 2019 Yanchep bushfire some Seatrees and Breakwater residents with horses, sheep and alpacas had to leave them behind when they evacuated.

The Stop Puppy Farming legislation, which also includes reforms to de-muzzle greyhounds, involves changes to the Dog Act 1976 that minimise the number of dogs suffering neglect and requiring rehoming by regulating the breeding and sale of dogs in WA.

Barbara Williams is grateful to all the people in Evans Head who came to her aid while she was living in her car. World Zoonoses Day: Prolific mice numbers highlight risk of zoonotic disease
On World Zoonoses Day, Australia’s Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Mark Schipp has highlighted how the risk of zoonoses, diseases which can be transmitted to humans from animals, can be reduced through practising good animal biosecurity and hygiene control procedures. The bacterial disease leptospirosis is an example of a zoonotic disease of worldwide importance. The disease has been reported in over 150 mammalian species around the world, including wildlife, rodents, cattle, pigs, horses, dogs, and people.

Shire successfully prosecutes owner following vicious dog attack
The successful prosecution in the Derby Courthouse on 10 March 2021 of a vicious dog attack is a timely reminder for all dog owners of their responsibilities towards their dogs. The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley brought about a prosecution of a local dog owner whose dogs attacked a holiday maker in February 2020. At the time, the attack left the woman in hospital overnight, unable to work for about three weeks, with long term scarring and a fear of dogs. The Court imposed a fine and court costs of over $5000.
