It’s showtime in Bendigo for the first time in four years
The Bendigo Agricultural Show is back. The two-day event was held for the first time in four years on Friday and Saturday after several cancellations due to Covid and then last year, the grounds being used to house evacuees from floods.
“Here’s my hand, and here’s my heart” – celebrating migration and mateship
Candece Jay. Donald’s Soldier’s Memorial Park was awash with colour as a gathering began to take shape last Saturday, October 28. Community came together to celebrate one of Australia’s most enduring narratives: migration and mateship, and Donald celebrated well; as multicultural locals came out in force to share food and dance and words.

Crowds flock to Pilton concert
The Festival of Small Halls stopped in at Pilton Soldiers Memorial Hall, performing in front of a big crowd. Lee ann Weekes from down the road at West Haldon opened the show. She was followed by Brisbane-based cellist Monique Clare and Canadian musician Shane Pendergast.
Nationals held at Jamestown
Sports Shear Australia Nationals 2023 was held on the 21st and 22nd October at Jamestown SA ... The woolhandling board saw Kirsty Bone 2nd in the open and Sigourney Williams 2nd in the novice.
Artist drawn to Jacaranda City

World Solar Challenge passes through Tennant
You may have noticed some rather funny-looking cars coming through town earlier this week as the World Solar Challenge vehicles passed through town on their way to Adelaide from Darwin with their huge support crews. The event … encourages teams from around the world to test out designs and innovations in solar vehicle technology.
Celtic Piping Club concert
If you’re interested in Celtic music, here’s an event not to be missed: the Celtic Piping Club is hosting an event at the Ray Bradfield Room in Castlemaine on Saturday 4 November, starting at 8pm. Internationally acclaimed duo Colm Broderick on uilleannn pipes and Francis Cunningham on concertina will be performing.
Hatty scoops the pool in annual crop competition
RA and SJ Hatty’s crop of Boree wheat has won the Ganmain Show Society’s annual Royal Agricultural Show wheat crop competition. The crop of Boree wheat sown on May 9 has a yield estimate of 5.0 t/ha.
Narrandera gears up for Golden Boot
Golden Boot touch football carnival players and organisers are looking forward to converging on Narrandera next week for the 2023 Golden Boot carnival ... it has been run on and off since the late 1980s and for the past 11 years has been conducted as a fund-raising event ... The first of the auction items for this year’s Golden Boot was this artwork completed by Narrandera local Mark Flack, who is a close friend of [the late Samantha Willams’s] family ...

Accolades as Charlton Show returns – a day of food, fun and friendships

Following three years of “No Show” the Charlton A & P Society could at last breathe a sigh of relief as the 140th Show returned to the annual calendar and - for the first time – was held in the new Charlton Park Complex ... As just one of the 580 agricultural shows which take place across Australia, Charlton has fought doggedly to retain its big day.
Bundanoon Folk Festival, 24-26 November 2023
Organisers of the all-new Bundanoon Folk Festival this November 24-26 say it’s heart-warming to see the village community rally to lend their time and skills to bring the Festival to life ... The vision is to build an annual Folk Festival unique to Bundanoon, that connects and showcases the village, supports local businesses, and creates gigs for regional artists along with crowd-pleasing national talent. Among fun live performances will be music, song and spoken word.
133rd Numurkah Show, 25 October 2023
2022 saw the cancellation of the Numurkah Show, not to COVID, but to floods. Many of the roads leading to Numurkah were shut due to crossing flood waters or in a bad state as a result of same. Consequently 2023 sees the Numurkah Agriculture Society again presenting our 133rd Show. There is a very high degree of anticipation to have once again a Numurkah Show.
