109th Exeter Show, 24 February 2024

The Exeter show brings together exhibitors and entertainers, as well as visitors from across the State, and offers something for everyone.   The Axeman’s Association hold their annual woodchopping and tree felling events in a special arena in the showgrounds.

Fairy Queen conquers Covid for fitting finale

Vicky Wilson. The final stage of Denmark Baroque’s Fairy Queen project was completed in January, culminating three years’ work to complete an ambitious program. Started in 2021 and stalled by Covid restrictions in 2022, the project focused on community capacity building of the performing arts in the Great Southern.

It’s showtime in Allora

The Frank Phelan Memorial Trot sponsored by long established Show supporters Neil and Robyn Phelan will have a slight change in format ... Neil did not inherit the love of horses and he and Robyn are now stewards in the Cattle Section.

Again we have a bumper show planned for 2024. On Farm Cattle Challenge  - this is the 2nd year we are running this and we are hoping to continue  to build on the success we had last year with the On Farm Challenge.   From feedback last year we have added some  extra classes for 2024.

Australia Day dawned less than sunny last Friday, and unfortunately for all those looking forward to watching the annual Australia Day Awards being presented and then participating in the fun to follow. Preparations were well underway when the sky opened up, and unfortunately, due to safety concerns arising from the lightning, Australia Day events were postponed.

Cambooya Australia Day 2024 – community event – Greenmount Billy Cart Challenge

The Get Chopped Community Events Inc. group hosted the inaugural Greenmount Billy Cart Challenge which drew hundreds of onlookers and participants from across Queensland. More than 800 people braved the inclement weather on event day to watch the 65 participants navigate Greenmount’s main street.

The Cambooya Australia Day committee landed a bull’s-eye when it selected hard-working Cambooya Rural Fire Brigade volunteer John Archer as the Citizen of the Year. Marking 236 years since the European colonisation of Australia began, last Friday, 26 January, residents of Cambooya and surrounds attended the local Australia Day event.

Fun activities on offer as Grong Grong celebrates Australia Day

Australia Day celebrations in Grong Grong started with a flag raising in the park followed by festivities at the Royal Hotel Grong Grong. Yabby races were held and this year Royal Hotel Grong Grong donated a $100 voucher as prizemoney and Grong Grong Anglers Club bought a Trophy to stay at the pub.

The 10th annual Gynburra festival was held at Port Victoria on Friday and Saturday, January 26-27. The festival is named after the Gynburra fish, also known as butterfish or dusky morwong, which has cultural significance for the Narungga people.
