Students take out most successful cattle award at Henty

Recent stories

Represented by 11 students and eight head of YAHS school cattle, as well as five Angledoon animals, Yanco Agricultural High School took out the most successful cattle exhibitor at the recent Henty Show.

They competed in the junior judging where they all participated in judging steers. Dom Edwards, Charlotte Collins and past Yanconian Jake Turner were chosen to do orals. Jake won overall judge and qualified to go to the state finals in Sydney in March.

Next on the agenda was the cattle judging and again Yanco had great success. Yanco Holly lead by Nathaniel Stimson, Yanco Madeline lead by Angus Spry and Angledoon Ellie’s Cloudy all won first place in their respective heifer classes. Yanco Holly also took out Junior and Grand Champion female of the show.

Yanco U2 Bono led by Dom Edwards and Angledoon Tupac also won their classes in the Junior bull section. Angledoon Tupac took out Champion bull of the show but was outclassed by Yanco Holly, who was awarded Supreme exhibit.

Heifers Holly and Madeline teamed up to place first in the pair of heifers and they were handled by Nathaniel Stimson and Angus Gunn. The pair of bulls from Angledoon also placed first. In the group of three animals, Angledoon placed first and the Yanco team placed second.

The Yanco team comprised Yanco Holly, Yanco Madeline and U2 Bono and was led by Nathaniel Stimson, Naomi Cramp and Angus Burton. Yanco exhibited three steers, two of which were bred by the school and one by Warrawindi Farms. The steer from Warrawindi Farms placed first and was handled by Miley O’Brien and the shorthorn steer that placed second was led by Deegan Brown. The Angus crross steer that placed fourth was handled by Kaity Lucas.

The final competition for the day was the paraders where we all participated and performed extremely well, especially with a number of students new to the cattle team and showing cattle.

In Junior age group Naomi Cramp and Charlotte Collins both placed in their class, Naomi coming second and Charlotte coming fourth.

Contestants then moved on into the intermediate age group with Hamish Warhurst placing first and Charlie Maybury second. Then came the senior section with Jake Turner coming in first, taking out Champion parader and Hamish Warhurst awarded Reserve Champion.

Henty was a great first outing for a number of YAHS animals that will continue on to Sydney Royal next month.
