62nd Muttaburra Stock Show, 1 June 2024

The Muttaburra Stock Show is having their 62nd show June 1st! Showcasing the districts best sheep, cattle and wool fleeces. The show is renowned for getting the crowd, young and old, involved in their infamous Marsh Rural Dinosaur Dash, the Sproutag Sheep Races and the Ringrose Button Sheep Dog trials.

News from the Nhill Book Fair – antique, vintage and classic books.

This month, book fair volunteers have started sorting through the collection of Vintage, Antique and Classic Books. Sorting vintage and antique are easy. Any hardcover book printed between 1918 and 1978 can be called vintage and any book printed before 1918 can be called antique.

What is it about a street parade? ... Beef Week Street Parade draws a massive crowd into the CBD ... St Mary’s Primary School principal John O’Brien wore an 80s inspired outfit and with the students sang 80s hits  Poison  (Alice Cooper) and  Girls Just Want to Have Fun  (Cyndi Lauper) as they walked behind a truck where a gorilla(!) played drums.

It's the time of year when many people start wearing beanies. The Alice Springs Beanie Festival is almost here, and we recently had a visiting tutor, Tanya Hattingh, conduct workshops at various venues to help create entries for the festival.

Success for sunny lawn Brafords at Rocky Beef Week

Well known cattle producer Neil Pacholke from Spring Creek came home with a heap of awards from Beef Australia held last week in Rockhampton. Sunny Lawn Brafords were awarded Reserve calf champion heifer, Junior champion bull, Senior champion cow, Grand champion cow, Exhibitors Group and Sire progeny group.

The race for the Two Cups is set to start!

Andrew O’Toole. The annual "Two Cups" Race Day at Hagan Park in Tennant Creek on Saturday is always a fixture to look forward to, being the only meeting held in the town of just over 3,000 people and 500km north of Alice Springs. Six races have been assembled for the meeting, and a total of 33 horses will do battle around the sand course in the Barkly.

Thousands expected at Paradise Lagoons Campdraft  

Riders and spectators from around Australia will converge on the Region this weekend for the 22nd annual Paradise Lagoons Campdraft. The Paradise Lagoons Campdraft Association received $10,000 towards the event during round two of Council’s 2023/24 Community Assistance Program (CAP).  

Free farm machinery display this weekend

This Saturday and Sunday, John Reis and Steaming on the Downs are presenting their spectacular vintage and steam-driven farm machinery on-farm exhibition at Lilydale, near Meringandan. More than fifty working machines, plus bush poetry, camp oven damper-making and a sausage sizzle are just some of the attractions.

This past weekend, Kaniva Leeor United (KLU) hosted the Leeor Premiership reunion of the 1974 A Grade team. The event, held during KLU’s home game against Pimpinio, drew a large crowd of supporters, including former players and officials from the victorious 1974 team.
