One of Kaniva’s beloved sheep was forcibly removed between Friday 12 noon and Saturday 12.30pm, 20th May 2023. The sheep was situated near the bird aviary at the Kaniva Wetlands and Fauna Park and is a part of the Sheep Art Trail that connects the park and the Silo Art to the main street.

“I choose a small number of items and play with their placement over a number of weeks, even months,” Samantha explains. “I observe them as the light changes and swap things in and out until I’m happy with the result. I’m seeking balance, in space and shape..."

Caddens artist Shannon Boyd has completed a striking mural of former Narrandera boxer Trevor Christian OAM for the Sydney Region Aboriginal Corp (SRAC). Trevor Christian OAM, Wiradjuri Warrior/Elder, was a Narrandera-born man who passed away December 13, 2011.

A development application is currently on public exhibition for a new portrait of Yaegl elder Uncle Ron Herron to be painted on a Maclean pump station after it was graffitied last August in what was described as a ‘kick in the guts for our mob’. The colourful portrait of the widely respected Yaegl elder on the River Street pump station, by street artist Austin ‘Nitsua’ was painted over in white paint over the weekend of August 7 and 8, 2022, with the perpetrator still unknown.

Russell Halden's work is influenced by the environment, having spent a great deal of time in the Bamah Forest with his father and brother, camping, fishing and hunting, acquiring a life-long love of the Australian bush, the colours, foliage types, difference with the seasons and weather conditions ... With many family connections in the region, including his brother currently living in St. Arnaud, and their great grandmother once residing at Beasley's Bridge, this exhibition is a homecoming of sorts.

You will most likely know Alexander McCall Smith as the ingenious and inexhaustible author of the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series or any number of his more than 80 other titles, but it was art that brought McCall Smith to Maldon last weekend. The cherished Cascade Gallery is currently showing the work of the entrancing and prolific artist Robert Maclaurin ... McCall Smith is an avid admirer - but they were yet to meet.

Now on display at Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery is the national art exhibition Three Echoes – Western Desert Art curated by writer, artist and activist, Djon Mundine OAM FAHA, showcasing works by 57 acclaimed artists heralding from communities in the Western Desert regions of the Northern Territory.

St. Arnaud artist, Gabriele Rohlje, is all set to unveil her latest creative works at the upcoming exhibition titled “Sayings and Quotations” at the St. Arnaud Raillery Hub Gallery on Queen Street, St. Arnaud. Gabriele has been a prominent figure in the St. Arnaud contemporary art scene for several years now, known for her unique style that blends figurative and abstract elements in a stunning display of colour and form.

Rod Moss. Bernadine Johnson, Ricky Ryder, Aureole Perkins, Therese Johnson and Arthur Webb are wandering in search of the purple-flowered plant  awele awele, the bush tomato. Looking for bush tucker was a weekend pursuit. How gratifying to see these activities continuing apace in the formal structure provided by Children’s Ground/  Ampe-kenhe Ahelh.

Large landscape paintings by Liz Sullivan take the viewer on an immersive and close encounter with nature. The works are of vibrant landscapes of green grasses and flooded countryside, reminiscent of the recent flooding experienced in the region.

Artist Donna Mitchell has been drawing and painting since the age of eight, with portraits her speciality. She now shares her knowledge and skills by conducting art classes for kids and adults ...
