New muralist in town

Ian Wickham. An emerging mural on the side of the Hemp embassy alerted me that a new muralist has arrived in town, Marta Kimberley. I was working next door in the Embassy watching it go up – thinking this deserves a story. So I talked to her about the highs and lows of the task.

Patricia Gill. Denmark artist Melissa Boughey's painting, State of Flux, Symbiosis, won the 2025 Omnia Art Prize announced in Toorak, Victoria recently. The opening night of the Donald Art and Photography Show, Friday, May 9, was enjoyed by all who attended. Accompanied by the background music by Leo Tellefson, people wandered around the 250-plus entries, viewing the beautiful artwork and photography.

Sunday festival to mark latest addition to silo art trail

The latest addition to the Riverland and Mallee's silo art trail will be celebrated with a special festival this weekend. Enliven Lameroo will be held in the town's main street this Sunday 27 April, from 11am to 3pm, coinciding with renowned overseas-based mural artist Sam 'Smug' Bates completing work on the western silo.

Watercolour workshop a wonderful evening

A watercolour workshop recently hosted by Heidi Jane Illustrations at the Wheatsheaf Store in East Greenmount proved to be a great evening for those in attendance. Organiser Heidi said the ladies enjoyed an evening of creativity and meeting new people plus a delicious meal served.

Superb native orchid paintings exhibition

Adair Dunsford. Edenhope artist, Meagan Lonsdale is currently exhibiting stunning pictures of the region’s native orchids at the Naracoorte Regional Art Gallery. Running alongside the “Recognition” exhibition of portraits by Harrow artist Ron Penrose, Meagan has presented highly detailed paintings showcasing the region’s orchids.

The nature of art

Visiting an art gallery might seem like something that only tourists do, but there’s nothing stopping locals from enjoying art in their own town. Indeed, the current exhibition at Cascade Art Gallery, featuring etchings and paintings by John Wolseley, suggests that art and local galleries are part of an ecosystem to which we all belong.

Yates mural to become local Riverland attraction

Trinity’s board gains global recognition

Austinn Lane. A Wallaroo student has received world recognition for her hand-painted surfboard. With help from her neighbour, who had experience in fibreglassing, 11-year-old Trinity spent six months painting her board during the 2024 season in preparation for 2025.

Patricia Gill. South African born Ellis Pearson's love of art and reverence for nature will be revealed in an exhibition which opens at the Denmark Visitor Centre on Friday evening. The former professional actor and alumni of L'Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq in Paris will present 15 oil-on-canvas works.

What are these artists up to now? Something Un-Real I suspect

The artwork for the Un-Real exhibition was arriving at the Cassino Gallery ... Artists were dropping off their work and gallery volunteers were deciding how best to display it. The Un-Real exhibition is about thinking outside the box, being radical, innovative, provocative — so anything goes from an artistic point of view.

Robe inspires New Talent artist

Adair Dunsford. Naracoorte artist, Lisa Caon is the first to exhibit in 2025 in the New Talent Art Space at the Naracoorte Regional Art Gallery. Her exhibition entitled “I See You Wave” features seascapes and mosaics inspired by Lisa’s lifelong association with Robe which began with childhood stays at the coastal town with her grandparents.
