South Australia’s growing reputation as a global space hub continues to take giant leaps, following the safe return of a space capsule.
Local company, Southern Launch, was responsible for the end-to-end re-entry operation for the Varda Space Industries W-6 capsule, which safely returned to earth at its Koonibba Test Range, near Ceduna on the Far West Coast.
The capsule carried equipment from NASA and other United States government partners with a focus on next generation thermal protection systems.
The data gathered during the high-speed return will support the development of future reusable re-entry vehicles and inform national security and space research programs.
It is the fourth capsule to land at the Koonibba Test Range in just over 12 months.
South Australia is at the centre of a thriving low Earth orbit economy with high value payloads safely returning to Earth at the Koonibba Test Range.
Southern Launch works closely with the Koonibba Community Aboriginal Corporation to ensure the test range plays a critical role in establishing Australia as a world leading destination for commercial spacecraft re-entries.
