Central Highlands Regional Council, Media Release, 2 February 2026

Council’s Metal in March is back in 2026, offering a monthlong celebration of sustainable art, recycled materials and local creativity.

What began as an initiative to promote the region’s thriving arts and culture sector through sustainable art practices has grown into a diverse program of metal focused workshops, creative activities and community events across the region.

“Metal in March is a great reminder of how creative our local artists are and how recycling and reusing materials can lead to remarkable works of art,” Mayor Janice Moriarty said.

This year’s events feature a vibrant metal art exhibition at the Emerald Art Gallery, an inspiring public metal art trail spanning the region, and an engaging lineup of flower making and blacksmithing workshops.

Entries are now open for the Metal in March 2026 Exhibition, with submissions closing on 11 February 2026. Opening night is being held at the Emerald Art Gallery Friday, 20 February 2026, inviting community members to be the first to experience this year’s vibrant collection of metal artworks.

The series of creative flower making workshops will be delivered at the Emerald Art Gallery from Tuesday 3 March 2026.

Blacksmithing workshops will commence on Saturday 7 March and run each weekend throughout the month at the historic Capella Pioneer Village, offering participants an immersive introduction to traditional metalworking techniques.

Bookings are essential for all workshops and are available via Eventbrite

Residents and visitors are invited to explore the self guided trail of striking metal art installations and murals that stretch the region from Willows to Bauhinia, and Capella to Comet. Find the map here!
